Variations of Poker

There are many different variations of poker. For example, there are variations that use fewer cards, like Three-Card Monte, and some that use ten cards or more, like Spit-in-the-Ocean. All variations of Poker are described later in this chapter. If you are interested in learning more about the game, you can start here.

All players bet money into the pot before each round. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot and is credited with the winnings. After many rounds, players will eventually run out of money. Ultimately, the game ends when one player wins all of the money put down as a buy-in. In the meantime, you can learn more about the various types of poker games by reading the following sections. Here are some of the most common types of poker.

Stakes: Stakes are agreed upon at the start of the game. They can range anywhere from ten to hundred dollars. Some poker games have common conventions for raising stakes, such as adding more money. However, if you don’t want to lose all of your money at once, you should raise your stake. To do this, you must bet more than twice what you want to lose. Once you’ve raised enough money, you can cash out your chips.
